No sound in exported files

Having been a little frustrated by the limitations of iMovie, I just purchased Final Cut Pro X. After sitting down with some basic tutorials to learn the ropes, I have made a shocking discovery. No project I export from FCPX has sound in the output file. Googling around shows me that I’m not the only one with this problem. No amount of tweaking destination settings helps. No solutions suggested on discussion boards have helped. Trashing Preferences, reinstalling FCPX, rebooting my machines — nothing has helped. How on earth could it be so hard to export a video from an expensive video editor that has sound? If I could give zero stars, I would.
