Amazing New Update!

The new update is amazing and should get pros back on board! I have been using FCPX since it came out, and although it wasn’t perfect, it still did what I needed it to do. Having shot on everything from iPhone to Black Magic to RED Epic 5K, it handles it with ease. This new update is beautiful, simple, and very refined and fast. I LOVE IT! Thank you Apple!

Fast

The interface has always been fairly snappy, but it is really snappy now. Very fast at everything I’ve tried so far.

Really great App

This new layout makes more sense. Hope Hollywood makes this the new editing tool.

Wow!

I love this update. The new UI looks pretty amazing! I also love the colours of the roles, new timecode that I can also copy and paste it. The workflow works pretty amazing and faster than the previous versions! Well done and thanks again Apple for this free update! Also, big props to Ripple Training 10.3 Depth Tutorials video! Thank you guys so much! Job well done!

The best editing app on the planer

If you need a video editing app, there is simply nothing on this planet that comes close to Final Cut Pro x 10.3. Yes it is a new upgrde, and the new user interface, the new audio lanes, every tiny update has made this the only choice there is. There is almost no learning curve, and if you need help, the FCPX community on the web is beyond helpful, you do not feel like you are alone, dealing with something that has no solution, the choice of plug in’s, effects, all manner and kind of hints, and tips, makes editing on a Mac and FCPX, fun!

A very well thought out update!

Loving the changes so far with this update. Good things come to those who wait.

Amazing update!

I am loving the direction Apple is going with these professional applications. The updated UI looks amazing… love the darker, flatter look and more vibrant colors. The controls are all laid out in a much more logical way and the custom workspaces is a great new feature. There are also a lot of litte improvements that just had me saying "yesss thank you"… I’m hoping this same UI theme will carry over to Logic Pro X as well so the two apps have the same look and feel. Overall, this is a great update and it makes me want to create more videos just so I can play with Final Cut more haha.

10.3 Broke completely, can’t roll back

FCP was a pretty great app… until 10.3 dropped and suddenly couldn’t import any media or my previous projects without crashing, leaving me completely unable to work. The lack of ability to roll back and need to wait for support to be available coupled with counterproductive community “support” has left a thoroughly bitter taste in my mouth. If there were at least a roll back option so I could get work done until the show stopping bugs are fixed, I wouldn’t be so thoroughly displeased, but Apple in their infinite wisdom have opted to not allow such an option. Brilliant. When an upgrade doesn’t work, it isn’t an upgrade. Allow rollbacks, Apple. People have work to get done and your policy of never allowing downgrades is getting in the way of it.

Bravo, Apple!

I too have been working with FCPX since it’s launch in June 2011: I dont’ think there’s any other application that has come so far in so little time. Version 10.3 is proof that Apple innovates but also listens to its users. I’ve long wanted Motion templates to “travel” with the Final Cut library, and now, any template you customize — or third party templates — may be saved within the project library. This newest version runs faster on either of my computers. Truly an intelligent creation. Many, many thanks, Apple.

Happily eating my words and ditching Premiere Pro CC

I left the FCP world for Premire Pro CC and used it with mostly success for about two full years. Now, with this update I’m happily back to Final Cut. It’s like taking off weights. The speed is almost unbelievable. Congrats to the entire FCP team, you guys nailed this one. Thank you.

Keeps crashing on me

I work for a living doing quick cuts and FCP is great… WHEN IT WORKS!!! Since the new update this app keeps on crashing!!!!!

Bring back the zoom slider, please.

I really like the new look and features of 10.3. My only request would be to give us the option to have timeline zoom controls at the bottom of the interface again. I know the keyboard and trackpad short cuts, but I find the slider at the bottom more handy, sensitive and acurate than these other options, and I miss having it there!

Horrible Crashing Problem

I am excited that FCPX is trying to add more features. But at this point I am LATE on projcets to clients because the program freezes and crashes so incredibly frequently. Click on a clip: Crash Open a library: Crash Click Stabilization: Crash Change color settings: Crash This is not a workable program at this time for RED users. PLEASE FIX SOON

It’s AWESOME! + Here are the bugs I’ve found so far...

This is a MAJOR step up in overall performace and everyone should update. EVERYTHING is faster and MUCH more responsive. The new render engine is AWESOME. Multiple codecs and video files ranging from iPhone footage up to 6k RED are playing seeemlessly together within the same project, (timeline) - it’s really stellar! That said, here’s the minor snafus I’ve come across: • Workspace Layouts ARE STILL NOT 100% customizable, even though it appears as if Apple is advertising it that way. Can’t seem to get the browser and the timeline on the same secondary display - it’s either one or the other. • Some filters on older timelines are a little buggy and may need to be accessed through keyboard shortcuts - or - by closing the browser panel. In example, an older color correction filter needed to be opened up using the magic wand “show color board” button rather then directly through the effects panel. Every similar instance I’ve found a quick workaround for and so far it only applies to filters from previous generations. • If you are using two displays, it seems the mouse gets confused from time to time if the mouse goes from the timeline - crosses over the browser panel - then lands on the effects panel. It seems to think you want to be in the browser rather then the effects panel. This is annoying. It can also automatically trigger a change in the clip preview monitor where as it goes to 100% instead of “fit”. Annoying, yes, but the other improvemnts make the upgrade worth it. • The broadcast safe filter changed and is confusing now. • Not sure if it’s my display preventing it, but I’m not seeing Rec 2020 in projects - even though it’s been switched on in the project preferences - but I can export Rec 2020. Would be cool if it could notify me exactly why Rec 2020 is not available while editing. • The timeline scaling tool has been removed and is located under the clip apperence button only now. That means alot more zooming in and out of the timeline with the zoom tool instead. • The background tasks display isnt as obvious as we’ve been used to. • They STILL haven’t put right clicking to good use. Would be great if it could become customizable. All in all great job! Would love to give someone at Apple more specific ideas to try though.

New Version: New Bugs

I have had this app for a couple years now and was really enjoying it until the new version recently. I don’t mind relearning where everything is all over again but the constant crashing is REALLY getting annoying. It used to never crash. Now it crashes at least once a day with the new update. I don’t understand. I’m working with the newest model of iMac and hardly any other apps. What a shame.

new update!!!

kipping crashing and frustrating!! come on!!!!!!!!

Fantastic!

I’ve used Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro extensively and Final Cut is the hands down winner! The new interface took about a day to get used to but now I can’t imagine going back. Apple really thought through every element of the workflow and user experience. It’s pleasing to the eye, uncluttered and very efficient. Thank you Apple for the fantastic update!

Memory Leak Issue

Have tried to export a simple timeline via share and also tried sending to compressor but during export memory keeps growing and crashes once it gets to around 60gb. My video program is only 30mins long and tried this export on two different Macbook Pros with the same issue very frustrating. I love the program but not when it has issues like this! Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Crashes my system on export

It works fine until I actually need to export finished work, then it just crashes my entire system. Unacceptable. Why can’t I roll back?

Back It Up!!!

If I didn’t keep a version of 10.2.3, I’d be dead in the water right now. Due to the Motion template changes in 10.3, most third party plug-ins are having problems loading. Truth be told, it is in the hands of third party developers, but you’d think Apple would have the resources to get an advanced copy out to the larger plug-in houses so workflow is not disrupted. Bells and whistles don’t impress, just a working application. After Apple’s hardware nightmares over the last few years (i.e. offering machines with soldered parts that can’t be upgraded) I’m seriously considering migrating to a PC environment for editing. I ditched the iPhone last year and won’t look back, but I didn’t consider doing the same with my desktop until now. Get it together, folks.
